"Portela captivates with this fresh and provocative novel, and Obejas performs marvels with her dexterous translation." - Natasha Wimmer, translator of Roberto Bolaño's 2666 and The Savage Detectives.

"In addition to being one of the most talented fiction writers of the 21st century, Achy Obejas has proven herself to be a groundbreaking translator as well, and her translation abilities are mind-boggling! Beyond rare, Achy occupies a category all her own. "- Johnny Temple, Publisher, Akashic Books (Brooklyn, NY)

"Brodsky once said that poetry is what's gained in translation but that poetry must be put there by a translator of the first order, by a word-alchemist of uncommon gifts and sensitivity, all of which Achy Obejas is." - Junot Díaz, winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
